SplunkPHP: Enviromental data ingestion tool
A tool that collects data from various PLC devices and processes it for analysis.
SplunkPHP is a data ingestion and processing platform (SaaS) developed to collect and organize telemetry coming from PLC devices deployed across environmental remediation worksites in Italy.
The system was originally created as a bridge to import device data into Splunk for analysis. Field equipment installed on remediation sites sends operational data to a central server through simple channels such as email and SMS, which are often the only reliable communication methods available in those environments. The first version of the project focused on parsing and forwarding these messages into Splunk.
Over time the software evolved into a more complete standalone platform. Instead of acting only as a connector, it now collects, parses, classifies and redistributes incoming data, making it accessible to different stakeholders depending on the type of information and the needs of the project.
The platform processes data coming from hundreds of remote devices, transforming heterogeneous messages into structured information that can be monitored and analyzed. A custom web dashboard allows operators to check the status of the system, verify the flow of incoming data and identify potential anomalies or communication interruptions.
SplunkPHP is built with PHP, MySQL and JavaScript, using the same personal backend framework I developed for other administrative applications. This framework provides a structured environment for building internal tools with dashboards, forms and lists.
Although not publicly distributed, the project has been running in production for years and represents a practical example of how relatively simple technologies can be used to build reliable systems that integrate industrial devices, messaging infrastructure and web-based monitoring tools.
