Quiz Tool

A small tool for teachers who want to make quiz in classroom.

Quiz Tool is a small open-source web application designed to run simple quizzes in a classroom environment. I originally built it for my own lessons with middle school students, looking for a tool that was lightweight, easy to deploy and free from tracking, subscriptions or external dependencies.

The application is intentionally minimal. It runs entirely on a standard web server using PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and does not require a database. Questions and answers are stored in simple JSON files, making the system easy to modify or extend without any setup complexity.

Students can access the quiz from their own devices in the classroom. Their answers are saved on the server and a live ranking page can be displayed on the teacher’s computer or classroom screen, updating in real time as participants complete the quiz. The interface is deliberately simple and playful, with small visual elements such as emojis to keep the experience light and engaging for younger students.

The project was released as an open-source repository on GitHub, so that other teachers can install it easily on their own school servers and adapt it to different subjects or classroom activities.

Quiz Tool reflects a pragmatic approach to educational software: simple architecture, zero friction for deployment and full control over data, making it suitable for schools that prefer self-hosted tools without external services.
